Johma Salads

110 stainless steel hoppers and 50 standard carts from salad specialist Johma ‘oet Twente’ have been coated with RSS Ceramic coating. This coating layer has reduced salad waste in the hoppers by 59%.

Johma wanted to reduce the residual material of salads in the stainless steel hoppers and standard carts. After emptying the hoppers, too much salad stuck to the stainless steel.

“Previously, three kilograms of waste remained in a hopper, but in the new situation, we have been able to reduce this by 59%. That’s truly a job well done! We now throw away less salad, productivity has increased, our robots (also an innovation project) need to clean less, and there is less strain on the wastewater treatment.”

“RSS Surface Technology has thoughtfully contributed and provided solutions.”

The project took about nine months from start to completion. According to Daniël van der Woude, Project Engineer at Johma, the investment was recouped after one year. The coating layer will need to be reapplied every three years, depending on use, mechanical stress, and wear. Daniël looks back positively on the innovation process and the achieved results: “Johma is growing and innovating, and we continuously find better ways to work. We are leading in efficient and smarter working, as evidenced by this project.”
